Spring is in the Air
With March comes the beginning of spring, a refreshed joy that comes with the end of winter. Birds are suddenly everywhere. There is a renewal all around us; seeds awaken, buds appear and nature takes hold. We must adhere to Georgia O’Keeffe’s words, we must take time to see, and not ignore the beauty of this amazing area.
For us, spring is also the time we kick off our busy season. It’s about to get very, very busy! With two vacation homes, two guest rooms and now a bed and breakfast, we have prepared for the beginning of the busy season by completing remodels, nurturing plants, regrading the roads, washing windows and updating rooms, linens, etc. We are excited to see all our return guests/friends again, and also happy to meet so many new guests who are staying with us for the first time.
We start this season with some changes. Our long-time property managers, Ramey and his wife, Jo, have retired. While you may still see them out and about in the neighborhood, they will now wave rather than rescue you (and us) from whatever the situation may be. But don’t worry – Tom and I live in the neighborhood and are here to help with any question, give recommendations, plow roads and fill Ramey’s shoes. Along with Katy and Maria, Jan has joined the team to keep your homes and rooms sparkling clean and organized. We kick-off this season with enthusiasm and joy in sharing this magical spot.
Our first home, The Casita del Lago lakefront home, is already almost totally booked over the summer months. We have a few dates open still, and we remind everyone to book in advance to secure their preferred dates. We don’t get cancellations often, but it can happen, so reach out to us if you want to be on a waiting list for a date. This is the perfect spot for our guests with children or multiple couples vacationing together. Two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, one on each side of the home, offers plenty of room and space.
Our one-bedroom home, Abiquiu Lake Mesa, is no longer the new child in the family. This home, too, has its loyal followers who savor the space, the land and the panoramic views from the deck. This is the perfect space for couples, and if you have more than two in your party, you can also rent one or two studio rooms located on the property but in a separate building.
New this year is The Grand Hacienda, a luxurious and intimate bed and breakfast. The bed and breakfast offers a different experience for visitors seeking exceptional and discerning lodging in the Land of Enchantment. With three luxurious suites, each with a private entrance; king-sized beds; large and beautiful ensuite bathroom; private outdoor portal; and all the amenities - air conditioning, WIFI, Cable TV, robes, safes, etc. The Hacienda itself blends authentic architecture with modern technology and green sustainable building features, and showcases design and artistic features throughout. But, as much as you are going to love the indoors, you will want to spend much of your time outdoors, as this magical mesa top location offers quiet and stillness; an absence of noise and light pollution; hiking; and spectacular lake, Pedernal, Ghost Ranch and red rock views.
Because #breakfast is the most important meal at The Grand Hacienda, start your day with a cappuccino or latte, followed by a three-course gourmet breakfast. And, after a day of discovering Abiquiu, come back to your home-away-from home for evening snacks, desserts or happy hours. Relax around the kiva fireplace, play games or finish puzzles, soak in the hot tub, roast s’mores over the fire pit, or challenge someone to an outdoor game of Jenga.
March also is the beginning of the tour season in the area. The Georgia O’Keeffe tours are starting this week, and are offering two new tours this season (a photography tour and a family tour). The rafting guides are ready to take you down the Rio Chama or Rio Grande. The Cumbres & Toltec train is hitting the tracks. The Lavender Farm is opening. Art galleries are filled and hiking trails are ready to lead you deep into the land.
