COVID-19 Travel Update

We are now NM Safe Certified and trained in COVID-Safe Practices to offer our guests the highest level of service, provide the most comfortable stay, and keep you and our staff safe. The only Abiquiu area vacation homes to have received this designation, it shows our commitment to keeping everyone safe.


The safety and well-being of our guests and staff are the highest priority at The Grand Hacienda Bed and Breakfast and Abiquiu Lake Vacation Homes (The Casita del Lago and Abiquiu Lake Mesa).  Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by COVID-19.  

We appreciate the trust you place in our team to ensure a safe and healthy get-away. We have worked hard to ensure our guests experience a rejuvenating, private getaway, and we want to update you on our COVID modifications and procedures. We are following the New Mexico COVID Safe Practices set out by the New Mexico Department of Health.

  • Natural Social Distancing! 
    Our properties are remotely located and naturally provide for social distancing and isolation. 

    • Rental Homes:  you have the entire home to yourself with complete isolation.  We thoroughly clean and sanitize the home and hot tub between guests.  Our cleaning staff is following strict protocols for everyone’s safety.  Check-in and check-out is done remotely so there is no required contact.

    • Bed and Breakfast: while the B&B was built for community, it also naturally provides for isolation and distancing.  Rooms are thoroughly cleaned between guests, and the common areas and hot tub are sanitized multiple times throughout the day. Each room has its own private entrance from the courtyard, private bathroom, private outdoor patio/portal with chimenea fire pot, and a door code entry so you can check-in and check-out remotely. We have many outdoor areas and seating where you can relax with safe distancing from others.  Because we are a small three-room B&B, you can easily find your own isolated spaces outdoors. See additional information below for breakfast and community areas.

  • Safety First!
    We are following CDC recommended health precautions: 

    • Social Distancing shall be in effect, and we ask everyone to refrain from shaking hands or hugging staff L.

    • All staff shall wear masks and gloves, and guests are encouraged to do the same.

    • Heightened disinfecting protocols are in place.

  • Enhanced Cleaning and Sanitizing.
    While we have always been committed to rigorous cleaning and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, we now have also implemented more proactive and preventative sanitizing measures. This includes routinely cleaning all frequently touched surfaces throughout the property and taking extra time to disinfect every light switch, door knob, hand rail, desk, tables, remote controls, window crank – if you can touch it, we are disinfecting it! For the bed and breakfast, we are sanitizing the common areas throughout the day. We are taking extra precautions to keep our rooms, homes, common areas and hot tubs clean and disinfected for you, our staff and our community – so when you arrive you don’t have to worry and can relax and enjoy.

  • Self-Check-in and Check-out! 
    All guests will be given directions and door codes so you can enter the property without a personal check-in.  Just head to your home or room after the designated check-in time, enter your code into the door, and start your vacation. For our bed and breakfast guests, you will find a property map in your guest suite showing you common areas. If you have any questions, you can call or text us and we will respond immediately.

  • Gift Shop/Mercado is open!
    If you would like to make a purchase from the Mercado, you may now order items online and pay online – we will deliver your items to your room or house.

  • The Grand Hacienda Bed and Breakfast: New – Temporary - Rules!
    Due to COVID concerns, we closed the Bed and Breakfast for several weeks while we put procedures in place for everyone’s safety. We are now open with the following protocols: 

    • We are limiting capacity at our properties to 50%.

    • We encourage self-check-in procedures.

    • Please adhere to social distancing.  There are at least nine different areas on the B&B property for relaxation so you can easily enjoy the space with proper distancing.

    • Breakfast can be enjoyed in your guest suite, on your private portal, or outdoors at least 6 ft away from others. Dining in the Great Room is an option when you are the only reservation at the Inn.

    • There will be no self-serve food – only plated entrees served by staff or brought to your room.

    • The specialty coffee station will be closed for guest use.  Each guest suite has its own Keurig coffee maker, and our staff is pleased to make you a cappuccino or latte if you would like one. 

    • Guests now have the option to reserve an hour time slot in the common area kitchenette for preparing lunch or dinner.  Please text us (224-600-4642) to reserve these amenities, or sign up on the sheet in The Great Room.  

    • The hot tub is closed unless you are the only reservation at the Inn.

    • Unfortunately, we must suspend our evening social activities.  We will, however, still be providing evening treats.  Treats will be plated for each room and available for pick-up in The Great Room.

    • If you are staying more than one day and require new towels or trash removed, please text us. Our housekeepers will not be entering your room during your stay. 

    • If you prefer to stay without breakfast or evening events, you may now book a room with a $50/night discount in addition to the Grand Opening Discount at check-out (you will automatically see this option on the check-out page).   

  • Flexible Cancellation Policy during COVID.

We now offer Cancel For Any Reason trip insurance from a third-party that will further assist you with uncertainty.

We have also added a flexible cancellation policy for those of you who book direct with us.  We have worked very hard to change dates, give cancellation gift certificates or provide full refunds for all our guests who chose not to travel in March, April and May.  It is always safest to book directly with us so we can use our policies, and not the policies of an online travel agent.  We may update this policy if the COVID restrictions are extended. 

For reservations made before March 16, 2020:  
For stays between March 16 and May 31: your reservation may be changed or canceled at no charge up to 5 days before your scheduled arrival if the cancellation is COVID-related. For stays in June, 2020: your reservation may be changed or canceled at no charge up to 5 days before your scheduled arrival, and your refund will be in the form of a cancellation gift certificate which can be used for a future reservation.

For reservations made after March 16, 2020
Reservations for stays through June, 2020, may be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 5 days before your scheduled arrival, and any refund will be in the form of a gift certificate for future use at any of our properties. 

Cancellation gift certificates can be used without restrictions for future stays at any of our properties and do not expire. Cancellation gift certificates cannot be exchanged for cash.
